Newgrounds is an American website headquartered in Glenside, Pennsylvania, United States. Created in 1995, the site primarily hosts Adobe Flash animations and games, but also features a music oriented page, along with an art portal. The site was created and is owned by Tom Fulp who still oversees numerous aspects and regularly produces in-house and out-house content.
In 1998, Tom Fulp of Newgrounds created a spoof of Teletubbies called Teletubby Fun Land which resulted in a law suit from the BBC. His resulted in a boost of notoriety and media exposure, and the video was renamed Telebubby Fun Land. From July 5-8, 2005, Tom Fulp was a co-host on Attack of the Show!; he would showcase and describe popular Newgrounds Flash submissions.
As a child, Tom Fulp suffered from depression and hated school. During Junior High School, he began a fanzine called “New Ground.” It was around this time that Tom Fulp began animating. After homeschooling himself during tenth grade, he finished high school and began a website called “New Ground Remix.” At the end of twelth grade, he began making Club A Seal and Assassin games, which he posted on the site.
As part of the 5 year program at Drexel, He said, “I would spend 6 months on co-op (working full time) then 6 months in class. I started sophomore year on co-op at a major pharmaceutical company, working on their corporate website!. I spent the winter term working full-time at Qwest, but the New Year marked my next step forward – leaving Qwest and working on Newgrounds for a living. I was scared that it would be boring and lonely – like home schooling was back in 10th grade. To my delight, it kicked ass! Thanks to this new digital age, hermits like me could finally lead the lives we wanted to lead.”
