ESTHER DYSON, 59, is a founder of EDventure & also she is a journalist and commentator on emerging digital technology, an entrepreneur, and a philanthropist. Dyson is currently focusing her career on preemptive healthcare and continues to invest in health technology.

Esther Dyson is an active angel investor in a variety of start-ups, for-profit and otherwise, around the world. She also operates as the Internet’s court jester, a person of no institutional importance who somehow manages to speak the truth and to be heard when and where it matters.

She does business as EDventure, the reclaimed name of the company she owned for 20-odd years before selling it to CNET Networks in 2004.

Dyson sold her business EDventure Holdings, along with its Release1.0 newsletter and PC Forum conference, to CNET Networks in 2004; PC Forum and Release 1.0 played key roles in the early development of the PC software marketplace and the commercial Internet. Dyson left CNET at the end of 2006 and (with permission) has resumed doing business under the name of EDventure Holdings.

Esther Dyson worked after graduation as a factchecker for Forbes, then as a security analyst at New Court Securities and, later, Oppenheimer. She worked for the Rosen Electronic Newsletter, and bought it from its founder and changed its name to Release She founded her company, EDventure Holdings, as a holding company for the newsletter and other ventures.

Esther Dyson has written for numerous business and technical publications, with a monthly column in Computerworld. She has served on many boards, including chairing ICANN, the organization with authority over Internet domain names. She has also chaired the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a not-for-profit group that advocates for rights in the digital world.
