COLIN BARCELOUX
Networth: $8+ Million
Colin Barceloux, 28, is the founder of BookRenter. A simple observation of how books will diminish in value from semester to semester on all college campuses is what sparked the idea behind bookrenter.
He started to collect all these unwanted books in college, and sold them online to students all over the country on eBay, Half.com, and Amazon. Then it hit me – the practice of buying a book, using it, and selling it is really just a rental! Thus the idea behind BookRenter, and the entire textbook rental category, was born.
BookRenter.com, the first online book rental service, was featured recently on business cable network CNBC. During the segment called “One Bright Idea,” BookRenter.com founder and CEO, Colin Barceloux, talked about the market need for online textbook rentals and students’ response to the service.
“We created BookRenter.com because of our personal experience. Today, the market validation for our concept, combined with our frugal operating model, has positioned BookRenter.com to address what we anticipate will be a burning need due to current financial stress across the country,” said Colin Barceloux.
Colin also says:
“We have grown tremendously since the early days of selling used books for extra beer money, but our core mission — to make education more affordable for everyone — still drives us today”
BookRenter.com also was recognized by the Web Marketing Association with a WebAward for Outstanding Achievement in Website Development.
Colin’s first startup was Decide Interactive, an online advertising startup focused on search engine marketing bidding, where he worked as an Account Manager to large scale clients. Colin also worked at Google in online advertising and at 24/7 Real Media as a Marketing Manager.
He has guided BookRenter.com from a small startup team to a successful trial and now leads the first online textbook rental service.
